SUMMARY:Calgary Horticultural Society Plant Share
DESCRIPTION:Save the Date!\n\nThe Society hosts two plant shares a year\, one in the spring and one in the fall.  The objective of our Plant Share is sharing excess plant material between Society members.  Members can also receive information about plants such as their needs and habits\, as plant advisors are on hand to answer questions.  They can also help you choose the right plant for the right location in your garden. \n\nYou can also share seeds at the Plant Share.  At the seed exchange table\, drop off your extra seeds.  If there are seeds at the table that you want\, make a seed exchange or a monitory donation.  Seeds remaining at the end of the Plant Share will be donated to a garden in need.\n\n\nExhibitors\nWe are inviting our corporate and affiliate members and program partners to exhibit during the Plant Share.  They will be able to sell products\, services\, and memberships at this event\, as well as share information.  While you wait for your letter to be called\, visit their tables.  To learn more about our corporate and affiliate members\, visit the Friends of the Society Directory under the Membership menu.\n\n \nSpecial to this Event\nAfter sharing has wrapped up\, around 11:00 am\, the Society has a few special activities:  the unveiling of a memorial bench\, the member launch of the YardSmart Design- Garden Bed for Native Wildflowers garden\, and the sharing of cake to celebrate the Society’s 115 years of serving Calgary and area gardeners.  Plan to join us for the whole morning.  We expect all our activities to be complete by noon.\n\n\nPlan to attend.  Registration is not required.\nThis is a members-only event.\nMembers may use their Bring a Friend benefit and invite a quest to attend with them.

SUMMARY:Calgary Horticultural Society - Woody ID 3
DESCRIPTION:This course takes place over 5 Wednesdays from September 15 to October 13\, 2021.\nPlease note the prerequisites below. \nThis 5 week course is designed for gardeners who wish to extend their knowledge of trees and shrubs in Calgary. \nDuring the first 4 weeks\, 25–30 specimens will be studied. Some of these will be specimens less commonly grown in Calgary. Reference to genera studied in previous Woody ID courses may be made. \nThe focus of this specific course will include correct nomenclature and identification of specimens as well as discussion regarding the suitability of the specimen in Calgary conditions. \nEach week there will be an in-class presentation as well as walks outdoors\, so participants should dress appropriately for the prevailing weather. Additional\, optional walks will be arranged depending on student interest and volunteer availability. \nDuring the fifth class\, participants will make a short presentation about a related tree or shrub of interest to them. Details regarding the presentation will be discussed on the first day of class. \nPrerequisites: completion of the Intro to Woody ID AND one of the following: Perennial ID\, Woody ID 2 or the full Master Gardener program. \nInstructor: Marilyn Mayall
