SUMMARY:MGAA: Grounded in Science - Fall Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Fall Symposium on getting back to the basics of gardening\, grounded in science.\nThe digital world bombards us with gardening trends\, current and not-so current fads. How to sort fact from fiction is challenging. Join the MGAA as we explore gardening practices that are Grounded in Science. \nJoin Robert Pavlis\, of Garden Fundamentals\, as he looks at the many positive attributes of creating environmentally-friendly bog gardens and how to build these sans mosquitoes. \nThen Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott\, one of the Garden Professors\, will tackle fact-based gardening practices dispelling many current popular myth-based gardening trends. \nPlease download Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott’s “Garden Zombies! Myths that will not die”: \nDownloadPDF \nWe round out our day with Larry Hodgson\, The Laidback Gardener\, as he takes us on a tour of the world’s most beautiful Botanic Gardens and the important research and conservation work being done there. \nJoin us for a clarifying\, fact-filled garden conversation. \nNote: Talks will be available to ticket holders for 1 week following the symposium.

SUMMARY:MGAA: How Plants Deal with Drought
DESCRIPTION:Hot and Dry. Join Elaine Rude as she explores the ways plants handle drought. \nPlants are no strangers to dealing with stressful conditions. The multiple 30+ C days this summer forced plants to enlist a number of strategies to cope with drought and heat. What mechanisms do plants use to survive these stressors and how do these affect plant growth and production? Join Elaine Rude as she explores plant responses to adverse conditions.

SUMMARY:MGAA - Creating Beauty Through Texture\, with Elaine Rude
DESCRIPTION:Creating texture in a garden can be a challenge for gardeners including the most experienced ones. Texture is rather an amorphous quality generating questions of: what is it really; why are some plants considered textural and not others and\, how do you put plants together to create interest? While we often think of texture as something tactile\, there are a number of surprising ways to manipulate plant qualities to create depth and interest through texture. So let’s take a journey to discover what these qualities are and how to put them to best use.\n~~~~\nElaine Rude MG\, should be a familiar face as a popular local garden speaker and instructor in the MG program. She is a regular contributor to The Gardener (formerly Gardener for the Prairies)\, Fine Gardening\, Calgary Herald\, CHS and Canada’s Local Gardener (formerly AB Gardens). Elaine battles wind and wildlife on her beautiful NW acreage garden\, and is the owner of Paintbrush Garden Design and Consulting\, and a member of the Garden Sages.\nRegister using Eventbrite.
